What's next for The Surreals?

Over the past few years, The Surreals found itself in a pretty bad state. We didn’t have a website, the domain was claimed by someone else, the Midnight collection had metadata issues, and some technical accounts were lost, to name just a few. While some of these issues have since been addressed, there are still a number of fundamental things that need to be fixed.

Many of us believe there is something truly special about The Surreals and the art behind it. That’s exactly why we don’t want to let it fade away in its current state.

Some of the things we plan to fix:

  • Building and maintaining a proper website (we hope you enjoy the one you are looking at right now).
  • Fixing any metadata issues in the Midnight collection.
  • Recovering lost technical accounts and assets.
  • Restructuring and cleaning up the Discord.
  • Some other things we think are important for the long-term success of the project.

Beyond that, we will keep things simple. We don’t have a list of specific plans or a fancy roadmap. This might not sound particularly exciting, but that’s okay. We’re not interested in chasing every new trend in the crypto space. We don’t have plans to launch a $SURREAL token, create a DAO, or add complexity just for the sake of adding something new.

Instead, we want to focus on what we already have: inspiring digital art created by Jay & Adrian. Our ambition is to build a strong and sustainable digital art brand around The Surreals. One that can reach people far beyond our existing community and inspire others to discover and love the art just as much as we do. We want to think in terms of decades and centuries, not weeks and months. Questions like, “What does The Surreals need to survive and remain meaningful for the next 100 years and beyond?” will become the main focus.

Of course, building something sustainable also means thinking about the practical side of things. Could fixed royalty fees help support the project in the long term? Could working with a larger organization help us scale The Surreals’ IP? We don’t have all the answers, but these are important questions to explore along the way.

We’ll put our passion and time into making the project better, one step at a time. There is no grand master plan beyond that. Maybe it becomes something much bigger. Maybe it doesn’t. Either way, we have nothing to lose.

If you’re here for a short-term pump, find yourself frustrated with 'slow progress' or expecting some guaranteed long-term return, you may be in the wrong place. If you’re here because you love The Surreals and the art, we are more than happy to have you!

Let’s see where the journey takes us.

Why are Discord & Instagram unofficial channels?

Although  the Discord server is partly maintained by the team, not every team member actively follows all conversations taking place there. The Discord server was created primarily as a space for our existing holders to connect, share ideas, and engage with the community. For official announcements and communications from the team, our website and X will primarily be used.  We may also share official updates on Discord from time to time, but this should not be assumed to be the primary communication channel. If you need to contact the team directly, please use the contact form on our website. Team members may occasionally participate in Discord discussions, but Discord should not be considered a direct support channel or a place where you can expect a response from the team. The current Instagram account is managed by someone we don't know. If you are that person, feel free to reach out :-).

Is buying a Surreal a good investment?
