our Story

In 2021, JayEffVee, an anonymous self-taught artist with a background in biology, created the founding collection of The Surreals, titled “The Official Surreals.”

The collection consists of 10,000 surreal artworks, algorithmically generated from more than 90 unique hand-painted traits. Each trait was painted digitally in a single layer, using techniques that mimic traditional oil painting. The final works were then minted as NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain.

The result is a distinctive collection defined by a surreal, vintage naturalist aesthetic, appreciated by a global community of collectors, artists, and art enthusiasts.

Later, based on community demand, Jay co-created “The Surreals: Midnight” with his close friend and mentor, Adrian Retana. Adrian, a Costa Rican art director with over 15 years of experience in concept art and visual development, shaped the broader collection’s darker, more classical horror aesthetic, of which Jay created six 1/1 pieces.

The Surreals: Midnight stands as the antithesis to the original Official Surreals collection and currently consists of 675 artworks from a maximum supply of 3,333.
